PRESENT DIAGNOSIS: 15 “synchronizing and mutually reinforcing contradictions” afflicting the USA**
The author has extensive research on peace and conflict themes; he uses a psychoanalytical terminology (collective conscious, subconscious, complexes, archetypes, repression, denial, projection, trauma, etc) to analyse different nations, and one is seriously ill: the USA; it's a patient whose pathologies allow only more 25 years of life, as an empire. Unless something changes. Yes, Galtung believes in therapy.
"The prognosis is, of course, rather dim. If this rather heavy baggage remains unprocessed, then the USA will continue processing stimuli via the archetypes and release the tensions accumulated in ever more global violence."

--military contradictions including rising tensions between the US, NATO, and its military allies, along with the increasing economic unsustainability of war;
--political contradictions including the conflicting roles of the US, UN and EU;
--cultural contradictions including tensions between US Judeo-Christianity, Islam, and other minorities;
--and social contradictions encompassing the increasing gulf between the so-called ‘American Dream’, the belief that everyone can prosper in America through hard work, and the reality of American life (the fact that more and more people can’t).

Somewhat dated but interesting. Either Galtung has a difficult to understand writing style or a poor translator. Worth a look at his unique view.
