Although this is solidly aimed at collectors, with prices on nearly every item, it is an interesting historical overview for costumers and historians as well. The book is loaded with hundreds of color photographs of original items, and plenty of supplemental images -- mostly old advertisements, but also portrait photographs and a few old fashion reviews, in color when available.

The book is divided up by type of item, rather than chronologically, and the dating on items can occasionally be vague, or sometimes left out entirely. One can see how something has changed over time, but there isn't much of a sense of each period.

The period covered is roughly 1840 - 1960s. Different types of artifacts have more strength in different periods. There are some fine early hats, for example, but most of the aprons are from later.
