An interesting take on Atlantis and who/what lived there. Also contains a tongue-in-cheek (I hope) rant on humanity and politics today. All this is an erotic story!!

The other books by this author were heavy on the erotica, this is almost more romance than anything else. I would even say that it doesn't even need the erotica label, unless of course the author wants it for sales or something.
Cassie goes on a real date with a guy she met on an Internet dating service. His idea of a first date is to take her scuba diving for the first time ever for her with a group of people. When the boat stalls out, everyone except her goes down to find out what the blue lights in the ocean are. She goes to find them after being left alone and literally bumps into Raen, at the same time his statis ends. He's an Atlantean, who were actually aliens looking for a home. He likes her more than is good for him and she has no idea why he's so hostile. When he finally starts to like her, in their way she makes all the moves. She doesn't know that so he thinks she doesn't want them and then he gets more hostile. It's kind of funny to see the guy doing all of this. Enjoyed the book.

This book had it all!!!
We begin with a group of divers in the deep sea, a woman a bit too desperate to settle down who accept a first date from her online "boyfriend" and of course, the worst happens, no power and a storm coming. When they discover the lost city of Atlantis, it is not a ruin, is is not only a city and its inhabitants are definitely not myths or dead.
Big surprise here with aliens that were actually asleep in the middle of the ocean for thousands of year, aliens that are the origins of the mermaid tale!
I loved this book for a lot of reasons: the originality, the mix of genres (romance, supernatural, suspense and science fiction). I also loved the different characters. Both humans and Atlanteans are very well defined, have all the own personality and view on the present situation and all react differently. I loved how we got to observe the reaction that, in my opinion, are all very realistic and a good analysis of our society: some see any difference as a threat, some don't care, some thinks of others before their own. It made me think about how I would react in this type of situation but in the end, you don't know until you are there.
Anyway, I enjoyed this story a LOT and hope there is more!!

I loved it but the reason I gave it 4 out of 5 is because of the ending it's an hea but it ended so abruptly it feels unfinished like there was so much more to be said but wasn't

I have a strange relationship with Ms O'Connor's books. I either love them or find them boring to death. None more than Lords of the Sea, though. As usual the story/world is interesting, but in itself, it doesn't save the book. I dragged it along as a very, very tired mule might drag along its dastardly of an owner: with resentment and tiredly.
I didn't care about the plot, about the hero and heroine, their HEA. (I suspect because I'm tired of the same misunderstanding in almost all her books. )

Much better than title implies - good Sci-fi [it's not paranormal].
Enjoyed story [except for a small bit at end regarding the romantic outcomes of supporting characters, , otherwise it was a good yarn. I did like the HEA for Cassie and Raen though.]

Cassie annoyed the hell out of me. So much so, it detracted from my enjoyment. I found her shrill, self centered and immature at some points. Raen definitely deserved better. I wish the plot had expanded more on the mermaid elements. Their scenes together were steamy. But the ending was really abrupt.

This is a romance for adults.
The thought processes of the H and h kept the story interesting. I would read it again for the HEA.
Was a big problem with wrong words being used--chose for choose, royalty for royally, liar for lair, etc. would give one more star if it was proofread.

Cue Led Zeppelin..."Communication Breakdown" and you sum up the relationship between these characters. all the way to the end, they did not communicate. I found the story very interesting, though I'd have liked a few questions answered at the end.

I feel slightly cheated. It took merman and made it kind of cool, but the pace was so slow. Then the ending was so unsatisfying!

A romantic story
My favorite stories by this author are usually not based on earth. This story had an interesting plot which paved the way to an awesome adventure.

IT IS NOT EASY TO FIND AN ENJOYABLE MERCREATURE STORY WITH THE ADDED ANGST, BUT THIS WAS ONE OF THEM.
OUR HERO is an Atlantean from Andromeda, and for some reason his people has been woken from stasis which is almost a century ago if I am not mistaken. We meet him when our heroine goes after her 'friends', diving into deep sea and found him in a statue state only to realise that it's a living creature. Raen has been betrayed by his mate before and is quite distrustful of the female race but something about Cassie draws him in. Although the Atlanteans are wary of Cassie and her crew, they keep them as so called guests in their floating ship and during that time, each woman unknowingly falls for their own guard. For the Atlanteans, it is their culture for the women to propose to them and want to mate with them, meaning the female race is superior amongst them. Thus it causes a little bit of misunderstanding between Cassie and Raen but all the more JUICY, ANGSTY and SMOKING HOT for us readers.
OUR HEROINE was actually on some sort of date with Mark, a man she met online. However the trip takes a turn when they discover the lost city of Atlantis, which is actually a floating ship from Andromeda. The cool thing is the Atlanteans are pretty much like merpeople, who can form legs on dry land. The attraction between Raen and Cassie while instant, IS NOT INSTA LOVE which THANK GOD was awesome! The sexual tension and chemistry plus angst and jelaousy was delicious and a page turner! Cassie's character isn't much I would dwell on, just know that she's not a bitch or wimp but a fighter.
OVERALL I enjoyed getting to know this fictional world created by O Connor, it's like a guilty pleasure for weird romance genres.
