Published in 2010, but still important to note a few instances of cultural appropriation, inaccurate messages etc.:
- "'The Wampanoags,' Mandy Banks told him. 'They were the Native Americans who lived near the Pilgrims.'" Watch out Katie Kazoo fans, you get two switcheroos in this book! In preparation for Thanksgiving, Katie's class visits a reconstructed pilgrim village. While there, the magic wind blows along and switches Katie into a pilgrim herself! Her second switcheroo comes while she is in New York City at the Macy's Day parade. Can these two switcheroos help Katie realize the true meaning of Thanksgiving?? This is an entertaining, light read with a true meaning message...elementary girls would love it. ...more
