Kristy Dykes—wife to Rev. Milton Dykes, mother to two beautiful young women, grandmother, and native Floridian—was author of hundreds of articles, a weekly cooking column, short stories, and novels. She was also a public speaker whose favorite topic was on "How to Love Your Husband." Her goal in writing was to "make them laugh, make them cry, and make them wait" (a Charles Dicken’s quote). She passed away from this life in 2008.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book.

I'd rented it twice previously from the library and never quite gotten around to reading it. It's a collection of 4 novellas about immigrants settling down in America. Once I got around to reading it, I really enjoyed it. The stories are a fast read and all the characters are likable.

I enjoyed all four of the novellas in this volume, but the story about the Mexican immigrants really touched me spiritually. I'm sure that all of us are guilty of praying to God that our will will be His will - Please, God, I really want/need ... - instead of asking His guidance and accepting His wisdom when His will isn't what we really want.

The third story was the best one! Definitely wished these stories were a bit longer as the others felt rushed, but genuinely enjoyed it.

Light & fluffy, but just what I needed between heavier reads.
