In recent months, I have cracked the spines of numerous faerie based novels, each having been similar to the other in one form or another as far as plotting goes. Due to this, I have been leery of fae books in general, even though I adore the worlds created for the fae realm. Bound Darkly stands out amongst the crowd. Tarrant Smith drops the reader into Tir na n-Og, the realm of the Seelie and Unseelie courts where love is possible and mayhem is likely to occur.

The author struggled to find a voice and stick with it, for the narration and her characters. I found myself at first very annoyed with the stilted and inconsistent formal language, and then even more annoyed when the fairy characters suddenly started blurting out modern British English obscenities.

While the genre of the book is not really what I enjoy reading, the story has a good pace and not a bad plot. Conception was good, storytelling was poor. Additionally, the copy that I received definit

This book reads pretty well. It's a little choppy at times although I like the use of the fey's shifting for transitions between scenes. At the core it feels like a romance, and to read it in light of being a romance novel, it's of really good quality. It's not too bad as a fantasy. As the second book in the series, there are some moments when I would have liked some more explanation of what happened in the past. If I had read the first book, the lack of explanation would have made me happy so.. ...more

Unfinished -- a deeply detailed novel that has great action sequences -- but also, a great deal of plot and back story that left me feeling very confused. As a stand alone, I found it too challenge to become wholly absorbed without knowing the events of the first book -- but the writing was interesting enough that I'm searching out the first in this series. I'll update this review once I've finished both books.

I graduated from Queens College in North Carolina with a degree in English literature, and although I had every intention of making a living as an author, it took me twenty more years of living to crystallize in my mind what I wanted to say to people with my work.

I currently live near the beautiful town of Madison, Georgia with my husband, son, horses, dogs, and the odd assortment of stray cats.
