As clichéd as it sounds, Kaaron Warren has cast herself as a literary chameleon and a tinkerer, who is ever dissatisfied with only one or two combinations of techniques. While I would class these stories mostly in the category of horror they are really so much more. There is a feeling of dread in many of the stories. A disquietude that permeates them as well. Some are Sci-Fi with a tendency to be about alternate ways to view the world.
Some are Fantasy about a woman's place in the world and some are gut wrenching horror.
I loved this collection and can't wait to read more from this very talented author.

Awesome collection, I love Kaaron's writing, especially her short stories, so Dead Sea Fruit was an absolute (if dark!) pleasure to read. It took ages though, primarily because I kept having to come up for air, a very good thing but one that slowed down the process. Weirdly, probably my favourite story in the collection was "Doll Money", because it actually had a happy ending! But they were all great stories.

An enjoyable and diverse collection.

My favourite stories were probably Fresh Young Widow, Doll Money, The Grinding House, Bone Dog, Polish and The Gaze Dogs of Nine Waterfall.

I wanted to be a writer from a very young age, and wrote my first proper short story at 14. I also wrote a novel that year, called “Skin Deep”‘, which I really need to type up.

I started sending stories out when I was about 23, and sold my first one, “White Bed”", in 1993. Since then I’ve sold about 70 short stories, two short story collections and three novels.

I’m an avid and broad reader but I al
