Great little book with nice illustrations by Robert Frankenberg. I came across the author, George F. Scheer, after watching a documentary.
“The animals in Cherokee tales perform impossible feats and are endowed with supernatural powers, and this, too, is perfectly in the tradition of the Cherokees' own medicine men and conjurers. The animals danced often, as indeed did the Cherokee. Whenever a council was called, it was the occasion for a series of dances, accompanied by feasting and a general good time. Dances figure prominently in the stories told here: dances at council meetings, spontaneous dances such as the one the groundhog devised to save his life…”

A very unique book that's great reading around the campfire.
