Lots of information in this book, but not the most practical for learning to play. For one thing the book is quite large and heavy for most music stands, and it does not lend itself to staying open. It's really an introduction to learning to play, you would likely need supplementary material. The lessons are a small part of the overall book when you get right down to it, but are interspersed with a lot of history of famous guitar players and other things. If there was a Guitar 101 course offered somewhere, this book would make a great textbook as it covers just about everything in the guitar world.

Really like that it includes both the pattern recognition diagrams and the photos of finger placement. I found it helpful for learning the first few chords and then found myself needing to keep flicking back and forwards through pages and quickly plateaued. Think I'll check out a few other books as well.
