Screw Calm and Get Angry

Rate this book
In our current state of economic misery and political distrust, surely there is a limit to just how much keeping calm and carrying on one might be expected to undertake. You may very well find that getting frustrated and enraged might be the only way to get things changed around here.

To help you achieve a new state of mild motivation, Screw Calm and Get Angry brings together several centuries of embattled and embittered epithets. It would seem that across the world and across the centuries, there is plenty of evidence to suggest you're not alone in bemoaning the way the odds are stacked:

* On Politics: "The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly,' meaning 'many,' and the word 'ticks,' meaning 'blood sucking parasites.'" --Larry Hardiman

* On Work: "By working faithfully eight hours a day, you may eventually get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day." --Robert Frost

* On Money: "The easiest way for your children to learn about money is for you not to have any." --Katherine Whitehorn

* On Business: "Nothing is illegal if a hundred businessmen decide to do it, and that's true anywhere in the world." --Andrew Young

* On War: "You can't say civilization don't advance...for in every war they kill you a new way." --Will Rogers

* On Life: "If you wake up and you're not in pain, you know you're dead." --Russian proverb

A parody of the famed Keep Calm and Carry On British motivational poster, and featuring the same successful format as our best-selling Keep Calm and Carry On book, Screw Calm and Get Angry is destined to be the motivational mantra for the realists of the world!

I like mini-books. Especially the ones from the 1800s. There's been more a turn to such short statue books today. These today are small, short and work to collections of ideas or quotes. This is a quote book from a British perspective. most of the quotes are from those from over the pond. The selection is a solid one with quite a number I haven't seen before. Betrand Russell used to be everywhere just with quotes. Here he is many times.

It's small, a mite expensive for such a tiny lot - But worthwhile and worth carrying around or have it handy to reach for during a call with time to kill.

Bottom line: I recommend this book 8 out of ten points.

I don't encourage Getting Angry.
But there are certainly lots of things we care about,
getting messed up enough, that getting worked up enough
about them, to try and improved the situation, would be a good thing.

So some really good quotes to help us see through the obfuscations often thrown at us, when rightfully trying to address a deteriorating situation.

"If we see light at the end of the tunnel, it is the light of the oncoming train." ------------Robert Lowell

This is the first quote of the book and my favorite. This book really made my day and i must say that it gave me a much needed break from the depressing day i have had today.

Most welcomed book on my bookshelf.
(In fact, i might as well keep it on the bedside table so i could read it everyday.)

A short fun book full of quotes such as "Under Democracy one party always devotes its cheif energies to tryong to prove that the other party is unfit to rule--and both commonly succeed and are right" H.L. Mencken. My all time favorite of them "MY PROBLEM LIES IN RECONCILING MY GROSS HABITS WITH MY NET INCOME" Errol Flynn
