Little Shepherd is Cheryl G. Malandrinos's first children's book. It features little Obed, the shepherd boy. He and his father are out watching the flock when they see a bright light. Within the light appears an angel. The angel tells Obed and his father about a Savior being born that night. You all know than how the rest of the story goes.

I like this book. I thought that Cheryl did a good job telling this well known story through the eyes of Obed. Obed shared the same wonderment and intrigue a

My Thoughts about Little ShepardLittle Shepherd

Just turning five years old, Obed’s father had entrusted him with a flock of his own sheep to tend to. One this one particular night while he and his father watched the sheep, a bright star lightened up the sky. Not knowing what was going on, Obed was a little afraid, until a host of angels appeared praising God telling them that a Savior had been born in Bethlehem. Immediately Obed’s father wanted to go see this special child. Being so faithful to

Little Shepherd is a delightful story of the birth of Christ, geared for the four- to eight-year-old reader, but is a tale to be enjoyed by those of any age.

The story of Jesus’ birth is told through the eyes of Obed, a five-year-old shepherd boy who just received his first flock of sheep to tend. Conscientious about his new duties, Obed becomes fearful after the evening skies brighten by a group of angels who arrive to spread the good news.

Obed notices his father displays no fear, and learning

Little Shepherd is a wonderful children's book to share with children during Christmas, or really any time of year. It tells about the birth of Christ in a simple way, while also bringing across to the reader that God is watching over us. I read the book to my sons, who are nine and ten years old and I asked them their thoughts when we finished reading. One thing my younger son said first off was that he liked the illustrations (beautifully done by Eugene Ruble). When I asked him what else he li ...more

Little Shepherd by Cheryl C. Malandrinos is a fresh take on an age old story. First, Mia's review: my favorite page was the on with Jesus in the manger. I learned that when God tells you to see something, you don't have to worry about other stuff because God will take care of it for you. My favorite part was when the angels came. I LOVED IT! IT IS BE AWESOME! I loved the artwork! Thank you Cheryl! (she typed all that herself). Now my review. I really enjoyed reading The Shepherd Boy along with m ...more

What a wonderful book about a 5 year old little boy named Obed. He has a wonderful experience with his dad on the first night he gets to attend his very own flock of sheep. Obed and his dad along with other shepherds are visited by angels announcing the birth of the Savior.

The shepherds leave their flock in the field to go see the new born savior. Obed worries about his newly given flock all the way their and all the way back. All the time his father tries to assure him that the flock will be

I recently shared this book with our two boys, ages 6 and 8. They loved it, and we will be reading it again during the Advent season.
The boys loved putting a name and face to the story of the shepherds! They help put up our manger each year, and love placing the sheep in different places. Now they know one of the little shepherd's by name, Obed.
They listened as I read, and eyes got big at the mention of the wolf. When they heard the shepherd was only 5 and was able to stay up at night, they wa

This is a great Christmas book for kids. The book is a fresh reinterpretation of a familiar biblical story of the angels appearing to the shepherds announcing the birth of the Saviour. Cheryl has a unique slant on the retelling of this scriptural story. The reader will see the events unfold through the eyes of a little shepherd boy, tending his first-ever flock of sheep. It is an enchanting story that will bring the important message to young readers. One of the

Little Shepherd is a short children’s book offering a new perspective on what happened the night Jesus Christ was born.

Cheryl Malandrinos tells the tale from the point of view of a five year old shepherd boy who whilst tending his first flock of sheep is visited by angels announcing the birth of Jesus. The boy, his father and the other shepherds following the angels instructions, go to see the baby.
Although hesitant at first to follow the others and leave his sheep unattended, the boy soon agree

Beautifully illustrated and written with such good teachings. Although a five year old warming his hands at a fire initially alarmed me, I had to remember that was probably how they did things back then. Sometimes the boy seemed awfully tall for five, but that's not a big deal either. What was a problem for my aging eyes was some of the wording sometimes was lost in the illustrations and I had to re-read it a few times. I have no problem re-reading God's word though, so once I could see it, it w ...more

I especially enjoyed this story because I got a real sense of it continuing beyond the book. I finished the book thinking about how, as he grew into a man, Obed would slowly realise just how special that one night of his life was.

While Obed is the main character, I have to admit that – as an adult – I like the character of Obed’s father. He doesn’t give the boy lectures or spell out things for him; he lets Obed come to realise things on his own.

Of course, when you talk about a children’s book,

This is a super cute book and will be terrific for younger children since the Little Shepherd mentioned in the title is all of five years old!

This book takes the story of the birth of Jesus and really strips it down to the bare minimum for the very young, still getting to the major points and showing in a way a child will very easily understand one way a miracle works because of it. The story is minimal, but just right to reach the age it seems to be geared for and even an adult can appreciate t

"Little Shepherd" is one of the most charming children's books that I've had the pleasure of reviewing. Author Cheryl Malandrinos captures the wonder and the majesty of the heavenly hosts appearance to the shepherds of Bethlehem in her unique and inspirational story. Children and parents alike will enjoy reading this tale during the holiday season and for days to come afterwards as well.

I highly recommend this book for holiday gift giving, or beforehand, to usher in the season of celebration of
