“His legendary close shaves have left him with a unique take on existence.”
This was a quick read during the holidays, stolen from my father-in-law’s bookshelf. A palate cleanser sort of book, with Keith Richards quotes organized by subject. Recommended for fans.
This book of Keith quotes made me chuckle and realize he's a bit of a bastard, really. He comes off witty but also a dirty and cynical old man.
#2 Every time I read this book I wrestle with whether I hate Keith or not. He comes off as a prick, sure, and a bit of an asshole, but you can't deny he's very, very funny.
This collection of quotes, anecdotes and stories from Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards serves several purposes. It demonstrates a kind of brutal candor which I personally appreciate, it displays a dry British sense of humor which is endearing, and while it isn’t for the faint of heart (the language is as you’d imagine, rather colorful) it is funny as hell. Most folks who know of Keith’s misadventures over the years would say it’s a miracle he’s still alive, but this book shows he’s more aware than he’s been given credit for. Stone Me also serves as a cautionary tale for those who might seek fame and fortune and the excesses that go hand in hand with it. There are many facets of Keith Richards, but in the end he’s actually a fairly noble bloke – when he talks about women he displays a healthy respect unlike his legendary band mates. When he talks about life he reminds me most of myself: “I’m all for a quiet life, I just didn’t get one”.
I don't love the Rolling Stones. Of course I dig a lot of their songs, think they were great back in the day, but never had the impulse to follow them closely. In Nov. 2008 I saw COCKSUCKER'S BLUES at Anthology and came away with the impression that Mick Jagger is a drag. Keith Richards, however, is brilliant beyond belief, and this tiny book provides the proof. Epigrams, attributed quotes and invaluabe insight into the mind of one of today's most incredible minds.
This was a fun, light read -- my kind of junk food. All it is is a collection of quotes from Keith Richards over the last 45 years organized by topic. The more you know the Stones, the more you'll like it or appreciate it. Can be finished in a 3-hour flight. LOL on the plane a few times.
Keith Richards is like this awesome walking corpse that's been wandering around for years and no one has the guts to tell him that he's dead and he also has zero fucks to give.
This slim volume.....is great fun. Now, I would not have paid £8.99 for it but it was a most welcome present. Keef has a very dry sense of humour and while I think much of his interviews are wind-ups, these quotes are very entertaining.
Definitely not heavy reading but still fun & a must read for Stones fans. The stories & anecdotes are an interesting look behind the scenes of a band that has been there and done that.
