Runa expects to live her entire life isolated in the woods until she meets Thorkell the Tall. She tries to conform to society through a traditional marriage, but at a very high cost to them both. The Lost Tales are ten short stories set in Viking Age England (and related areas). They introduce the characters of the novel, "Eadric the Grasper," but each story stands alone.

The ninth tale of the Mercia series finds us in Jom between 1001 and 1006 AD following Runa, a wild and independent woman of the woodland who falls for Thorkell the Tall, a well known and well respected Viking, and her efforts in adapting to community life. We also see Canute, the teen from the eighth tale, as a young boy as he begins ...more

In the Ninth Lost Tale of Mercia, Jayden Woods paints a portrait of a woman fighting against her station and gender, rebelling against all that is expected of her even as a patient and tolerant Viking does his best to bring her happiness. It's well-written, giving the reader a rather clear glimpse into Runa's psyche - as well as a peek into the mind of the man who loves her.

A powerful story drawn with powerful lines. Pity about the 'loping hill' but otherwise an excellent read! Looking forward to the 10th and last of the Lost Tales. :-)
