Mayan Intrigue
Linda Weaver Clarke
The Adventures of John and Julia Evans
One thing I admire about Linda Weaver Clarke’s writing is that she desires to put the reader right there with her characters by describing the setting so well that you are swept away. From page one Linda eloquently describes in interesting details the surroundings and the feelings of her characters. I love when I begin reading a book and am taken in!

John and Julia Evans are back again for another adventure. This time, they are off to Cancun, Mexico to explore the Mayan ruins. As an investigative reporter, Julia is going on assignment but at the same time she and her husband are using it as a chance to spend some much needed time together. Lately, John has been more involved with his business than with his wife.

Julia sees something she wasn’t supposed to and finds herself in the middle of a stolen artifacts ring. When she becomes a liability

Linda Weaver Clarke has been writing historical fiction for years, and she also travels the country giving workshops on preserving family history through telling stories. Her new Intrigue mystery series departs slightly from her traditional historic fiction, blending her knowledge of ages past with her ability to spin a fun adventure with interesting characters. The depiction of the ancient cities is very interesting--especially since I've been to Tulum, which appears in Mayan Intrigue.

This was a good read set in Mexico that I liked (rate a high 3-1/2). It is a suspense with main characters Julie and John Evans as Julie is on assignment as a journalist to write about Mayan artifacts and illegal sales by drug czars. She sees something she shouldn't and then the bad guys are after her. The plot was very intriguing (I guess that's why it's called Mayan Intrigue). The only fault I found with it was it was too preachy at times. I like books that don't tell me what to think, but rat ...more

In many respects, ‘Mayan Intrigue’ is a slow work, which some readers might not appreciate. The dream sequence at the start is distracting and should be trimmed down. However, the overall density of narrative and dialogue combines to add to the intimacy of the novel that turns a simple adventure into an exploration of relationships. If I have a criticism, it is with the chapters that deal with Julia’s children left behind in the States. These chapters detract from the story’s flow and can be ski ...more

This story takes place in southern Mexico among the ancient Mayan ruins. I felt as if I were actually there with all the detailed descriptions of the country and ruins. I would like to go there some day. This book has a lot of great Mayan history. So... history buffs would really enjoy this one. The intriguing part of this story is wondering what the mysterious artifact is and how are John and Julia going to get away from the thieves. Loved it!
