"Make love to me."

A desperate Josie Alexander spoke those words to a stranger on a rainy backwoods road. But she was sure fate had put him in her path. He was going to be the miracle she needed—and she didn't even know his name.

Four years later, Chase Fowler still knew her face; he'd held it in his heart ever since their night together. But it was the face of Josie's three-year-old boy that surprised him. Chase had finally come to claim what was rightfully his in this tiny Louisiana town—and now that included his son. But the boy wasn't the only secret between them.…

I read the book description and I liked it .. then I looked at the reviews, and they weren't very flattering .. but I decided to take a chance .. and I should've known better
'Cause now I know why.

This review is going to be more of a commentary with quotes from the book and my reactions and comments .. but to understand what I'm talking about you need to know this first:

Spoiler:

"She didn't consider what she did an act of adultery. It had been an act of love. Love for Bobby."

mmm.. Okay, if you say so

"She'd run tonight, from both Chase and herself, torn between her very real attraction for him and her guilt over betraying Bobby's memory."

HELLO!! You already betrayed him for real while he was alive!!!

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to point out that the only good things about this book were J.T and Jim Fowler .. and their relationship and unconventional love for Chase.

Disclaimer - The story starts with a stupidly mind bogglingly bizarre "event". The heroine, a married woman, runs out of home, picks up an absolute stranger on a stormy night on the street. And the first words she utters to the guy is "Make love to me" !!!!~~!?~@!~#!?|#~?

And lo and behold ! The guy who is the hero obliges without blinking an eye. Add to this, an extra confounding coincidence. The hero is her husband's half brother, which is revealed much later.

She gets pregnant that night. And gifts the child to her husband, who promptly dies of Leukemia.

Now that I have gotten the crazy part out of the way, let me assure you that the story is still a worthy read.

She is the darling of a small, nosy but lovable town community. Hero comes into town a few years after the "event" and finds he has a son !!

He is seeking recognition and answers from his birth father, for abandoning him at child hood. Now he also has to fight the small town prejudices and claim the woman and his child as his own !!!

Both the lead characters are lovely people. The entire story smells of small town America, quite beautifully portrayed.

Applying rules of suspended disbelief for the first 4 pages, I would happily rate this 4 stars.

The beginning of this book was all kinds of strange, ridiculous, stupid, and dangerous. It went on to be conveniently coincidental. There was nothing likeable about Josie's behavior. She had two things going for her. One, she loved her son, and two, she at least felt guilty about her behavior from 4 years ago.

I thought it was slightly hypocritical when she accused her former father-in-law of taking her choices out of her hands in regard to decisions about her husband. She did the same thing the night she picked up Chase in the rain.

I felt badly for Chase. He found himself in situations that seemed to not have positive solutions. I had to admire his persistence and desire to keep moving forward. I liked Chase and was surprised he still wanted Josie after all the secrets came out. I enjoyed J.T. and his interactions with Chase. I liked Chase's father, James Fowler. I found Josie's blowing hot and cold to be irritating.

YET, in spite of all the things listed above, I did enjoy the book. I received this as part of a boxed set titled Small Time Charmers.

Beautiful

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a review and hundreds of books read, but this book from this author was so sweet I had to take the time to give it praise. It takes all the cliched stuff out and writes about love so nice you can’t put it down, and it gives you even the kid’s innocent thoughts. Absolutely lovely. I’ll be a loyal subscriber for Ms. Neff’s books! Thank you for taking the boring out of my romance reading.

A very unusual story.

This book had me immediately hooked when a distraught women picks up a total stranger and asks him to make love to her! Not a single page disappoints. Chase, Josie and IT were wonderfully drawn characters in an impossible situation. I will definitely read this one again.

Small Southern Towns!

Small southern towns, you've got to love them, especially if you're going to live in one. Enjoyed the story, characters and even some of the choices they made. Yeah for happy endings!

Loving family man

What a wonderful stepfather Chase had. A big man with a big heart. A good role model for Chase when he needed it most! Good read!

A different from the usual story line made this book interesting for me.

What love is

1Corinthians 13:4-8. Love is patient, love is kind.....the verses epitomize the story of love's strength and call it God or fate but they take the first step into forever on a stormy night full of grief, need, list, and surprising tenderness. Worth every moment you spend reading it. Yo will fall in love with Chase.
