Richard Paterson has Scotch whisky running through his veins. His grandfather and father were both prominent in the Scotch whisky industry in Glasgow for decades before Richard joined a competing whisky brokerage firm to start his apprenticeship. But this is no dry textbook on blending. Far from it. Humour, insight, history, a love of people and an abiding and evangelical passion inform every page.
For the first time one of the world's foremost whisky blenders reveals how he rose through the ranks to top of his profession. He also candidly reveals some of the secrets of his craft and gives his thoughts on where he feels the industry is heading today. Lavishly illustrated in colour and black and white with black and white line artwork, this is destined to become a whisky classic and an essential item on every whisky lover's bookshelf.
Terrific insight to this flamboyant Glasgow master blender. So his rise and rise in the the whisky world and in doing so gives a great look into the modern whisky industry and how it where it is today, well worth a read for whisky/history fans alike.
Great book. Nice to read the developments of the whisky industry using Richard's unique career as a guideline. Well written an humurous at places. Learnt a lot!
An exceptional book wiritten to share the beauty and the meaning of the "Scottish Spirit". Described by the words of the true Legend Richard Parterson along with the notorious Gavin D. Smith this book will take you directly into the heart of Scotland and its Scottish soul. A must have for Scotch whisky lovers.
This book was given to me when I was attempting to expand my knowledge of whiskey. It remains one of my favorites. I have read other books by Gavin Smith. Explanations are laid out simply for even the most novice of whisky drinkers (which I am). I will say to not let this be your only book. It is a good compliment to many other books, but, in particular, Let Me Tell You About Whisky, which garnered 5 stars from me.
