These Futurama comics are really starting to grow on me. The stories are fun and involving and the dialogue, in particular, is well done. You can almost hear the voice actors reading the lines here.
My favorite was the Freaky Friday parody where Fry and the Professor switch bodies. The Professor uses his new, youthful outer shell to pick up hot, nerdy chicks and even scores with "old" colleagues. Meanwhile, encased in the Professor's creaky carcass, Fry does not fare so well. Deemed insane by his coworkers, he's rushed to Taco Bellevue Hospital where a chihuahua diagnoses him "El Cuckooloco." (Carne asada not included, I assume.) The Prof is reluctant to give back Fry's young, flexible body and who can blame him?
Ah, youth is wasted on the young.

3.75 stars. This was a really fun collection of stories that I enjoyed, especially after having been enjoying the reboot on Hulu. The standout issue in this one would be the X-Men parody and I loved how they did that. There was also a reference to Cincinnati football, so bonus points for that!

I love Futurama! I'm glad to see it's the show that won't die, but I really wish we'd get it back more consistently. I also loved Bongo comics and was sad to see it go. The Simpsons and Futurama comics were always entertaining.
This volume really succeeded in capturing the flavor of the show, along with adding a little extra for comic fans, such as the X-Men parody issue included.
Great stuff, if you like Futurama, you should like this.

I love Futurama.
I wasn't an avid watcher of it as a child (which is probably because I had trouble keeping my mind on more than a few cartoons), but I love watching it as an adult - the pre-Comedy Central seasons, that is, and most of the movies. And I would much rather watch Futurama than seasons 12-30 of The Simpsons - seriously, The Simpsons needs to end already, while Futurama is grossly underrated. And since Futurama media is hard to come by when compared with The Simpsons, it's always nice to find a gem like this.
The book collects issues 5-9 of the Futurama comic series, which was published by the now defunct Bongo Comics. By far the most memorable stories are those in issues six and eight; the former features a battle between Robot Devil and Robot Santa, while the latter features an X-Men parody with the Planet Express crew. The other stories, while not as memorable, don't significantly bring the book down - since the Futurama comic series was relatively shortly into its run at the time the book came out, there weren't really any other stories they could have replaced them with that would have fit the book better.
One thing all five issues have going for them, though, is how well they emulate the look of the show. I met with one of the artists at the local comic con in Calgary a year back, and he signed my copy of the book, also drawing a very good sketch of Farnsworth. I was honestly surprised when I found out that Matt Groening didn't actually draw much of the comics - seriously, how often do you find a comic that so flawlessly mimics the show's art style, to the point you'd swear it was drawn by the original creator? And I hear the characters' voices in my head when reading every single scene - one chapter I really wish we could see in animated form is that where Robot Devil fights Robot Santa. In fact, when I first bought the book, that was the only chapter I read in the entire book, which makes it all the more worth buying.
In conclusion, if you're a fan of Futurama, I can't recommend the book enough. Of the trade paperback Futurama collections (of which, sadly, there are only four), this is THE one to buy, trust me. And it's not too often that even if most of the stories included are mediocre, the book still ends up being the best one, now, is it?

I don't know why I continue to be surprised by Bongo's Simpsons and Futurama work, considering it's usually at least entertaining, and sometimes feels like it could be held up with some of the best of the shows. This continues that tradition. It's solid Futurama stuff. If you like the show, you should enjoy this comic. Groovy.

I’m going to give this a 3.5-3.75
I used to love this show so on a whim I bought this and another futurama comic to reminisce. The storylines are decent, I still read the story in the characters voices, but I just found some aspects a little cringy / did not resonate as well in 2020 (whereas it was written it 2004). Overall cute stories and I flew threw it.

Four more adventures for the Planet Express team wonderfully interspersed with spoof adverts and other fun stuff. Would have preferred to see this on screen, but a lot of fun anyway.

February 15, 2011this and the other futurama comics were a great stop gap during that long horrible period when the tyrants 20th century (ahum living in the past anyone????) Fox did not allow any new production for futurama, curses be upon them and praise be to this book.

It was okay, but Futurama simply doesn't work as well as a comic as it does as a tv show. So I'd say, it didn't encourage me to read more volumes, but on the other hand, now I really want to re-watch the tv show.

Reading these comics feels like watching new episodes of the show. It is so much fun! Also, the word search at the end was a nice surprise.
