I read Tristram Shandy for the first time a few weeks ago, in the Everyman edition which unfortunately doesn't have notes. This helps, although there are still dozens of references which I am having to look up for myself. But that's OK, because it means I have to re-read the novel, and I think it's going to be a novel I re-read over and over for the rest of my life.
