This book is about a dog, Digby. Digby is old, and can't do all that he use to be able to do. This is hard for the little boy to understand, but his older brother helps him learn, and understand that just because Digby can't run, and play as he use to he still loves their family very much. I have mixed feelings about this book, because on one hand I enjoyed it because it was a sweet story, but did not enjoy it because it lacked educational value. This would be a good book to have in a classroom library for students to read on their own time.

Hazen, B. S. (1997). Digby. New York: HarperCollins Publishers. The author presents a lovely story of an aging family dog. The moments shared with the dog are priceless to this family. As the dog ages and can’t do much, all that is left are memorable memories. Children can relate to this memorable and sensitive topic of aging family members or pets. What a creative way to discuss such a topic.

This is a good book to show children how to incorporate the old into the new. Just because Digby was old and could not run or play fetch anymore, he still got to watch the two humans play and was still included.

Digby is an old dog and cannot run and play like she used to, but that doesn't means she doesn't still love her family and enjoy being a part of it. A great early reader about an aging pet and children taking care of their critters.
