The governor of Gaul has always been a “creative” accountant. Now he’s under investigation by Vexatius Sinusititis—or he was, until someone poisons the investigator. In order to heal Vexatius, Asterix and Obelix set off to locate a special flower that grows only in Helvetia.

Asterix in Switzerland is another one of the books that we didn't actually have when I was a kid, we had the cover, and a page or two, but the rest was missing. (like Obelix and Co., and Asterix and the Cauldron)

This is one of the best I've read for story, in that there's a twist...a Roman who's an ally, and needs help against...another Roman!

The Roman Auditor arrives in the midst of an orgy, to review the accounts of a wealthy province of Gaul that pretends to be poor (the money we see ends up
Now what exactly makes the Asterix Comics so fun, what makes them such treasures and such successful satires, and what makes even their often constant "political incorrectness" both acceptable and generally laugh out loud hilarious? For one (and very much essentially) author René Goscinny (and by extension also illustrator Albert Uderzo) generally NEVER single out one ethnic or cultural group for their jokes and humour (both textual and illustrative). And indeed, Goscinny and Uderzo almost ALWAY ...more

I love Asterix. I think its one of the best comics ever! Laughing Riot!!! Oh those Swiss are sooo organized! A character or setting in this book was interesting to me (and why): A character that was interesting to me was Asterix because even though he likes to have fun, he also takes responsibility about what he does and tries not to get into bad situations and he uses his brain. ...more

These books really are enjoyable. I think kids would like them for the slapstick humor and adults would like them for the slapstick humor as well as the verbal humor and jabs at Roman "culture."

I've only read 3 volumes so far (and have a 4th in-hand), but i'm extremely proud of myself for noticing that (not a spoiler) the names on the map and cast of characters pages can change from one volume to the next.

One of the great ones, with plenty of clever touches and an orgy with cheese fondues and so many whippings that I was surprised not to see it re-enacted in Eyes Wide Shut. I seem to remember most of the Swiss looked like Bill Bryson for some reason or other.

I haven't read the Asterix comics for more than 10 years. Now I read them with my children and it's so enjoyable! This is one of my fave albums. It is fantastic how much fantasy and details are in this album.

The plot of this one is predictably straight-forward: the heroes go out to seek a valuable item, face adversity, overcome it with magic potion and return with the item.

Minus points for the bad puns and the sometimes offensive stereotypes.

Very good addition to series, at #16. Asterix and Oblelix get into some "sticky" situations (a pun on the melted cheese orgies).

Wiki summary:

"Roman governor Varius Flavus of Condatum has been putting aside for himself (i.e. embezzling) the greatest share of the taxes he has collected. The money he sends to Rome consists of just a few coins. When Quaestor Vexatius Sinusitus is sent to investigate, Flavus poisons him to avoid being discovered. Dissatisfied with Flavus' doctors, Sinusitus calls fo

Asterix helps out a tax collector

It all starts out when Chief Vitalstatistix's shield bearers stuff up one last time. Vitalstatistix says that it is a beautiful day, so his shield bearers look up and next thing we know is that they have been sacked (most likely because, once again, he has found himself flat on his back looking up at the sky and hoping that it doesn't fall on him). However, that has absolutely nothing to do with the album, except to throw in a few laughs at the be

Auch hier n ...more

Another humorous entry in the series. Caesar sends an incorruptible Quaestor to collect the taxes of Helvetia (run by a notoriously depraved, corrupt, and greedy governor named Varius Flavus and his equally repellent clique of friends and advisors). Flavus poisons the Quaestor, who calls for Getafix to heal him. Asterix and Obelix accompany Getafix to Helvetia, where Flavus attempts to get rid of them. Along the way, we get all the expected jokes and parodies about Swiss cheese, Swiss fondues, S ...more
