I agree with Maria's review. Utell certainly has done her homework on this one. She not only looks at the theme of adultery in Ulysses, but she skillfully traces Joyce's obsession with it through his oeuvre, especially in his letters to Nora, in one of his obscure works written in Trieste Giacomo Joyce and even in FW.
The rumour of Nora's affair when Joyce briefly returned to Ireland certainly must have shook him up pretty badly, especially for someone who was already almost pathologically paran

Utell does a great job of capturing the complexities of adultery in Ulysses. She also highlights the import of the Parnell/O'Shea adultery for Joyce in a striking and original way.
