The two volumes of Taking Clashing on Controversial Issues in American History continue the tradition of providing students with well developed, carefully considered, and sharply opposed viewpoints on a number of enduring issues in history. The editors provide a concise introduction and a postscript summary to each issue and then stand back to allow the essays to speak for themselves. These essays have been selected for liveliness and substance and represent the arguments of leading historians. Read for a class... interesting topics but presentation is very bland. Although possibly a useful textbook in the past, the information provided in the book is not much more than what I would find in a Wikipedia search. Used in an undergraduate history class on post-reconstruction America as well as a history independent study... Overall, not bad for a textbook, but not an enjoyable aestetic read.
