Elf-help Books for Kids - Addressing the needs of children and the adults who care for them. By Michaelene Mundy. A unique guidebook for kids to help them deal constructively with all of their feelings. Softcover; 32 pages. 8" x 8".
This is a great book and even has things for me to learn as an adult - who admittedly didn't learn as a child that it was okay be mad. I'm still learning that my emotions aren't good or bad, they just are. And learning to acknowledge them and learn from them is what is important as well as the choices I make about what to do with the feelings and emotions. Good stuff!
A look at anger, and how to approach it and deal with it when it affects you and others. Informative and insightful ways for younger children to understand that being or getting angry is all a part of being human, and growing, and how to control and confront these feelings to provide for the best outcome for everyone involved.
A great book for children to learn them more about Anger and how to see it as a virtue and deal with it. From the book quotes I liked that one “ Anger is a given in life, a definite part of the range of human emotions we all experience. “
I used this book a lot when I used to work with families. This is a very good book about anger and being mad and how to manage each of those emotions for a child.
Michaelene Mundy is author to the Elf-Help book series for children. In Mad Isn't Bad- A Child's Book About Anger, Mundy describes why it is okay to be mad, how to deal with the mad emotion, how anger makes our body react, and why we feel angry. I was impressed with the simple explanations in the book. It was also helpful to me as an adult because my son is struggling with some anger issues after dealing with his mother's near death two years ago and his father's near fatal car accident nine months ago that left his father disabled.
As a mom I wanted to help my son through his anger but didn't know who to turn to. I got some great information from the book myself as an adult. There is a note to parents in the front of the book with suggestions on how to help a child deal with his/her anger and tells the reader that adults should model good outlets for their own anger. I highly recommend this book if your child has an anger issue.

Although the size of this book indicates that it should be read with younger children, there is WAY too much text on each page to read it with anyone under about 7 years old. Younger children will likely feel like this is a lecture rather than an interesting or engaging text. There are many other books more appropriate for teaching about anger. The one thing that I really like about this book is that it is concerned with communicating to young children that the emotion of anger is not bad in itself. This is something that both parents and children have a hard time understanding and expressing.
A very good book that explains to children what anger is and the inappropriate and appropriate ways to deal with it. A very good book to use in the classroom since anger is something that we all have and need to learn to deal with.
Cutely illustrated, this book shows kids that it's OK to be mad, but how you handle your anger is very important. It provides practical suggestions for ways kids can deal with their anger.
