This book is composed of three sections and the contents of each are based on sermons Alexander prepared for an annual conference. The theme of the conference varied from year to year, and since the book reflects those themes, the three sections are really quite distinct from one another. The first is on the attributes of God, the second on salvation, and the third on the church and ministry. In his preaching, I have always found Alexander to speak with arresting lucidity but the dynamism of his spoken word doesn't seem to translate to written word here. The material is solid, but the book as a whole comes across a bit disjointed and lacking spark.

Eric Alexander does a great job unpacking the passages of Scripture he opens up in this work. His goal? To make much of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, mission accomplished.
