Restless Legs Syndrome: Coping with Your Sleepless Nights

Rate this book
"The Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation estimates that up to 8 percent of the population suffers with restless legs syndrome (RLS). The hallmark of this neurologic disorder is an irresistible urge to move, most commonly at night. It causes uncomfortable sensations often described as creeping, crawling, tugging, burning, or aching feelings in the calves, feet, thighs, and arms. These disruptive symptoms vary in severity and can result in difficulty staying or falling asleep, fatigue, and impaired daytime function resulting from loss of sleep. Written by respected leaders in this field and sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology, Restless Legs Syndrome explains what we know about RLS, including its causes and manifestations, and what can be done to manage it. One thing I learned from this book that I wasn't aware of was that mental exercise helps in warding off RLS. I know that when I experience RLS I instinctly get up and read or do puzzles.

This book did have a lot of good information that helped me out, however I marked it down on star because it was published in 2007 and is super out of date now. I've scoured my library and they only have two books, this one and a book published the year before. It's kind of a bummer the library doesn't have more. So if you are like me and all you can find to read is this book go for it. Just keep in mind that some things have changed with time. Though still very much unknown to much of the world Drs (or at least mine) seemed to have known what I was talking about but didn't do much for be besides prescribing a medication. They also didn't diagnose me, I had to speak with them about it. Something has been bugging my sleep for so long, and I've been a tosser and turner my whole life so I never thought something like this would be affecting my sleep.
