Read this in preparation for starting a cut flower business this summer. Comprehensive enough for the absolute beginner to garden successfully but the detailed encyclopedia in the latter half is a valuable resource for even experienced gardeners.
This book is really two separate books. The front half is for inexperienced gardeners who need advice on how to set up and maintain a garden. At the end of this segment is a short chapter on flower arranging that is not well illustrated. The second part is a treasure for all flower gardeners! It is a detailed encyclopedia of flowers and other foliage that can be used in bouquest. Each plant has a full section that includes hardiness, growing condtions, planting, care, harvesting and conditioning. It is an excellent resource! The disappointment, because of its age 1993, is that the photographs are very small and taken from a far distance. My rating reflects the excellent second half of the book.
I’m so excited to start growing my own cut flower garden next year & this book was & is such a big help with helpful lists of flowers & foliage to grow.
