I ordered this sight unseen from a remainder catalog hoping for a nifty little book of food facts.
If I were to write a book by this title, I would include all sorts of cool, food-related trivia like eating contest records, how many pizzas it would take to fill the Grand Canyon, who decided that a lobster looked like something anyone would ever want to eat... You know, stuff like that!

A book that has a hot pink cover featuring a cute little gingerbread boy should be fun, dammit!

But it's not!

The book consists of little more than color photos with one "fact" per page.
And shocking? They're not.

Omega-3 fatty acids are good for you. Gasp!
So are antioxidants, tomatoes, red wine, and organically grown crops. Wow!
Cranberry juice can eliminate urinary tract infections. Stop! No more! It's just too SHOCKING!

Basically, if you have read, watched, or listened to the news anytime in the last decade - you've heard all of these SHOCKING food facts before.

The rest of the facts are laid out in a snide and preachy manner, reminding us all of the dangers of obesity, malnutrition, red meat, sugar, pesticides, yadda, yadda, yadda.

It's unlikely this sorry-excuse-for-a-book will ever go through a second printing and be reissued, but I suggest some truth in advertising next time around. Instead of a smiling cookie on the cover, use something more appropriate to the tone of the book - perhaps a side of beef lying by the side of the road, or some maggots on a hot dog. (Sorry if you're eating.)

Quick read, I gave more thought to where my food comes from than ever before in my life. After reading this I'm committed to eating locally sourced produce, free range chickens, in general more whole foods (organic when possible) & finally be less wasteful to lower my carbon foot print. Definitely an hour well spent.

Educational book which provokes you to think whether you would continue wasting food after reading it. It teaches you about the benefits of certain food. At the same time, it educates you on the food facts worldwide.
