Betty Gaard, the author of Discovering Imre (OakTara) and a novel for teens, The Ocher Flask (OakTara) has also written two other novels for teens: The Theft and Jericho Ride (Journey Books, Bob Jones University Press). She’s had numerous short stories and articles printed in The Young Salvationist, Boys’ Quest, and Hopscotch and also biographical articles on church families, published in monthly newsletters.
Betty graduated from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama, with a BS in home economics and a minor in English. After teaching home economics in Dallas, Georgia, for five years, she married her husband, Marshall, and moved to Lake County Florida, where they live today. They have three grown children.

This book probably deserves 3 stars but it’s a childhood favorite so it gets an extra star for nostalgia :)

It’s fairly simple writing but there are some good messages. I like the characters. I always wanted Mary to overcome her fear.
