A witty cross between an etiquette book and a Boy Scout manual, Rising To The Occasion covers everything from opening a bottle of champagne to unclogging a sink with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow diagrams. "Give this practical charmer to a young person in need of savoir faire, or keep it for yourself--all of us need a little help."--San Antonio Express-News. A Literary Guild Selection. Now in its 7th printing.
This book teaches you all the essentials in life. Each chapter gives you clear instructions on everything from setting a table and boiling and egg to changing a flat tire and having a dinner party.
I should have read beyond the main title/subtitle combination and read the further subtext. I was under the false impression that this book was about making toasts and would have a variety of toast suggestions for many different topics. Instead, it was one small chapter that touched on a couple things, but the remainder of the book was useless especially when a quick internet search would net you more current information on most of what was included in the book. Perhaps for those that want a reference bible of things they failed to learn while living with their parents it will be of use, but unfortunately, it was a lot of useless reading for me.
An amusing book published in 1993 that could be even better if it was updated to 2017. (Giving directions? Pre-GPS and WAZE days). Still has lots of nuggets that will never go out of date.
Fun, useful book full of how to's, projects etc. Kind of boy scouts meets finishing school... the Three star rating is deceptive as it is something I have given as a gift several times.
