What a great book for a homeschool Pre-K, perfect for both learning to sound out letters and discussing the meanings of words. The vintage illustrations are so pretty.

Although some entries have helpful definitions for children, some of the words listed are not even defined. It also has a section, “How Words Came to Be,” which has the moronic assumption of human evolution in which early people didn’t know how to talk for thousands of years—just grunt and gesture—until they eventually started using words, but “no one knows for sure.”

Had the authors read and believed the Bible they would know exactly where language came from and why—it was a gift from God to communicate with him and our fellow man. There are even parts of our brain that are specifically used to acquire and process language.

"Shannon: Merry Christmas, 1989. Love, Mommy and Daddy." I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. There were no good words in it. I received a "real" dictionary the following year.
