Witness the theft of an antique Katana and the rebirth of an ancient Samurai soul in the body of a thief without honor. Fall in love with someone you could never possibly know, hunt while being hunted, and taste the world again for the first time in 1300 years. No Honor is the tale of a thief who finally runs out of a luck and runs into Tannen Yojimbo, the spirit of a Samurai who will change his world forever.
I thought this was a little better than most 90s Image Comics fare. It features early artwork by Clayton Crain, and while it's not nearly as impressive as his later digitally painted/computer generated artwork, it did show signs of his later greatness.
The story itself deals with a thief stealing a cursed samurai sword and basically becoming possessed by a benevolent samurai spirit. Of course, the ghost has something it needs to settle before it can move on, so the thief ends up helping the spirit fulfill the goal.
honestly I hella dug the vibe of this story and I love the pacing and journey of it. The ending felt right too, just gave me more to look forward to and I was properly entertained. It misses the full starts because the art form is very busy and dark making it hard to tell what is happening at times. Some of the panel to panel time lapses are too great to really gauge or imagine what happens after and that caused me to stop and go back to see if I maybe missed something. Still I liked the concept so much it broke into the 4 area for me, but maybe I just love all things samurai and I'm biased.
The concept was interesting: a world famous art thief is possessed by the spirit of a long dead samurai seeking revenge on the assassin who killed his master. But the execution was clunky at best. The story didn’t flow particularly well and the main character “Random” wasn’t a particularly well rounded or like-able character.
I LOVED the art in this Mr. Clayton Crain is a true artiste (the e was added to make it sound French). The story was decent and I love the idea of the ghost of an honorable samurai being trapped in the body of a conman and them having to get along. Great character concept.
