There are only a few books where
I am ashamed of admitting to have read them but
it is only Fair of me to complete the story before writing a review.
So here it goes...

The beginning of the story reminds me of the famous expression
"First Impressions Count"
and
this story did Not make a good first impression on Me.

Leona's parents drugged her, sacrificed her
for the greater good of the village, and
they gave her to the big bad all mighty Kornel Debray.

Narcisse supposedly saves Leona from his evil brother by
taking advantage of the situation,
he donates blood to her,
he has sex with Leona in order to heal her, and
allows her to believe it is just a dream
(when ALL he had to do was give her some of his blood).

To make matters worse, right after taking her virginity,
about ten minutes or so later,
Narcisse seeks out the company of one of the
village's whores.
Yes, I kid you not !
He leaves Leona in bed and goes straight to a brothel.
o..k...

I do not care about his past or his reasoning behind such
Crude behavior.
His character is/was a turn off from the very beginning.
The story was not erotic or romantic.
I can understand the author wanting to create sensual characters but there is a 'Little' word that goes a Long way and that word is called a PLOT, And
it is called developing the plot and
developing the characters.

I do not understand how this story has received such high reviews,
maybe the other reviewers skimmed over the beginning or
maybe I read a different edition from the others,
who knows..

Why would the author make the Hero such a So-n-So ?
The rest of the story was predictable and
the lessor of the bad guys prevailed.

Leona was sacrficed by her parents and village to the Debray 's. They run the village and are known vampires. Narcisse is the head of the Debray family and hears of his little brother causing problems while he has been gone. Narcisse ends up saving Leona from him. Instead of letting Leona go, he takes her back to the castle. Once there, Leona is in for a big surprise. The relationship between Narcisse and Leona is remarkable. I actually loved this book as it grips you from the start, you do not want to put this book down until the end and even then, you are wanting for more.
