The Promise of Jonadab: Building a Christian Family Legacy in a Time of Cultural Decline

One lone family amid cultural and religious collapse struggles to maintain faith in their time and future generations.

This ancient clan demonstrates the successful transition of faith that remains aflame for centuries. Communicating zeal for God that any Christian father can emulate today, the biblical narrative in The Promise of Jonadab unfolds an obscure character's life.

In a time of spiraling moral and theological decline, this book encourages Christian families not only to stand but to pass the torch of their faith securely throughout generations.

What can Christian families learn from one minor Old Testament man whose godly line still continues today? The answer communicates the strong and sure message of hope in The Promise of Jonadab.

This was a good devotional read that challenged me as a father. I appreciate the challenge issued by these authors to consider my family legacy. What am I doing to preserve my family and to pass on a Christian heritage to the future generations? The Moores give some practical ideas for consideration and provide examples from their own life and family.

I do think that they may go a bit beyond the actual biblical narrative of Jonadab and assume certain things to be true that cannot be verified. However, I see the reasons for doing this and don't believe they have made any assumptions that are not properly grounded. Even so, I think we must be very careful when doing that. I believe God gives us the parts of the story that we need. Even so, He allows us to draw from the parts He gives us in order to fill in the gaps and discover certain truths for ourselves.

There is no doubt that our culture is declining. The Christian church has less influence in our culture today than almost ever before. We must look to our families to preserve the work of God in the generations to come. We must be active, not passive. We must be responsible. This is a good little book that has helped me to think through what this looks like.

I appreciated this short treatise on the need for a multi-generational view of child rearing, and looking at the influence of Jonadab on his family and the generations that followed after him. \This is a great little book for new parents, but for us seasoned parents, it makes us feel lousy and realize how and where we failed. But hey, we should give copies to OUR kids to make up for it.
