In a career that spanned sixty years, Alfred Hitchcock made more than fifty feature-length films and hosted his own television series, transforming the thriller genre in the twentieth century. Growing up, my TV intake was severely restricted. Most TV shows were forbidden, except for anything on PBS, some Nickelodean or old reruns on Nick at Nite. This prohibition on the consumption of entertainment naturally included movies as well. Most new movies were proscribed, unless they were cartoons, or carefully selected and approved by my mother. Guest Review by Adam Philips

In this gorgeous new book, “Hitchcock: Piece by Piece,” author Laurent Bouzereau provides a new angle on The Master of Suspense. Rather than covering Hitch’s biography or looking at highlights of his filmmaking career, Bouzereau sorts Hitch’s works thematically into several lengthy chapters. The chapter “Wrong Men and Anti-Heroes” looks at Hitch’s male protagonists; “The Hitchcock Women” examines women of every sort as they appear in Hitch’s films.

Doesn't provide a lot of detailed information for Hitchcock buffs, but it does give a good overview of his life work. Also, the removable "pieces" in the book make it fun and interactive.

This wonderful book, wrought in gorgeous black and gold, is the perfect present for any Alfred Hitchcock film.

This is not a straight biography or filmography of the great man. Instead, after a brief précis of his childhood and early filmmaking career, the book discusses Hitchcock and his work by theme: the wrong man and the anti-hero, the complicated women, the villain, and the distinctive style of a Hitchcock movie. Interspersed with these are select photographs of the director at work and at

Hitchcock is always fascinating - his intelligence, his ability to mix suspense with a sarcastic humor and to create movies which border perfection, to say the least. This book presents the reader with treasures such as a copy of Hitch's birth certificate, copies of family pictures, letters between him and producers, sketches of movie scenes, scripts... And the text itself presents us with several of the many notable trademarks of his movies (the Hitch touches), such as the wrong men, the notabl ...more

This is a perfect book. It focuses on his art and only refers to his private life when it impacts his films. Very balanced look at Hitchcock, with a ton of fun replicas to view. It features an outstanding filmography. Perfect book.
