Genograms in Family Assessment

Rate this book
Widely used by both family therapists and family physicians, the genogram is a graphic way of organizing the mass of information gathered during a family assessment and finding patterns in the family system. Both entertaining and instructive, this book is the ideal way to introduce all those involved in family treatment to this essential assessment tool.

An eye-opening tool for therapists, not only to work with families, but to understand the histories of individuals and how those factors have shaped them. One of the more useful of the many books thrown at us in grad school and one of those I've used more than others since then.

If you're looking for a guide about how to construct a genogram, look no further. It does, however, read very much like a textbook or manual: dry and concrete. I read it for school and if it hadn't been for school, I probably wouldn't have gotten very far through it.

genograms are like family trees that focus on relationships and patterns in families rather than on dates and jobs. they are fascinating to make and great to use in counseling others
