Sir Alfred Patrick Caldwell-Moore, CBE, Hon FRS, FRAS, known as Patrick Moore, was an English amateur astronomer, who is the most well known English promoter of astronomy. Moore wrote numerous books on the subject, as well as make public, television and radio appearances, over the course of his long life. He is credited as having done more than any other to raise the profile of astronomy among the British general public.

The chief impression I receive from this book today is that all of the various things mentioned in it could've happened if the political will had been there, but sadly they didn't. If history had gone the way Patrick Moore had predicted, we'd have a Mars base by now. Instead of doing any of that, humanity decided to disappear up its own arse on social media. It's really depressing.

Reading this I was reminded of that moment in The Last Jedi, during Ren and Luke's showdown, when Luke tells Ren 'every word of what you said was wrong', and that's very much the spirit of Patrick Moore's predictions.
