One of the most sought after male erotic photography books of the 20th century! Published in a very small and limited print run. Cream linen cloth boards with titles embossed on cover and spine in white. 9 page poem by Reynolds Price. Over 100 rich gravure photographic plates. Widely regarded as the photographer’s finest work, and surely his most celebrated book. A “must-have” title for Bruce Weber collectors.
Pride Month Rec #11: Bear Pond [homoeroticism. homoeroticism everywhere] _____________________
Weber is [NSFW] sublime (as usual); he's really the master of homoeroticism. And this book was originally made to benefit the AIDS Resource Center in NYC, so what's not to love? Copies are scarce, but it's worth the beg, borrow, or steal.
I was visiting New York for the first time and wandering around Soho discovered the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop with a Bear Pond display. The images caught my attention and it was my first US purchase. Starting with Gold Day by Reynolds Price the following photographs of boys and dogs in the outdoors are beautiful. The proceeds of this hard to find book were for AIDS fundraising in a time when that was scarce.
These images are evocative and poignant. However, it’s hard to view in light of the charges of assault against him and the cases of assault/harassment he has settled for large payouts by the artist.
