You don't appreciate how important a characters name is to the success of a story until you are forced to read "John Grape" @600 times. That alone made it a chore to finish. Add on to that the structure of the story which is overly detailed for chapters at a time and then skips weeks or months of the story with little to no recap, and you have a story who's humor barely salvages a second star.

The final fifty pages brought the book’s premise to the forefront. Up until that point, I wasn’t all that sure I knew what I was reading. I did enjoy the relatively short chapters, and I eventually picked up on the comedic undertones - but it’s always difficult to interpret humor in the written medium.

This is the author that wrote the novel that the movie Let It Ride with Richard Dreyfus was based on. He books are funny and creative. This is novel is about a guy who gets divorced, his wife takes everything, and he tries to win her back without her know it is him. I'm not explaining it very well, but it's a funny book.

Saw this book on my shelf and recalled reading it long ago when I worked in a book store and got remainders for free and know that it was hilarious.
