Steve Schaefer in his new book, "Living In The Overlap" published by Wine Press Publishing explores the teaching of Jesus about the Kingdom of God.

While He was here Jesus talked a lot about the Kingdom of God. Matter of fact He even went so far as to tell us that the Kingdom of God is at hand (Mark 1:15 NKJV). Mr. Schaefer begins the book with a definition of the Greek word that is used for kingdom. This word shows us not a place but a dominion. For instance in the Kingdom of God there is no sickness, there is unity, there is working together to achieve results and so Mr. Schaefer explores these and other important ideas in each chapter.

What is the overlap? The overlap falls between the first coming of Jesus and the second coming that Christians everywhere are looking forward to. The time of the overlap is now!

"Living In The Overlap" is a book that explores, what I think is a difficult subject, and breaks it down so that the reader can grasp just what it is that Jesus is talking about. The back cover tells us, "If we have ever prayed Thy Kingdom Come" then we should have an understanding of just what it is we are praying for. Mr. Schaefer walks us through this area with great skill. I highly recommend this book.

"Living in the Overlap" for Steve Schaefer provided informative and enlightening material regarding our "living" between the time that Jesus advised us he was coming back until the time that He comes again. There were several positives of this book: one was the extensive research that Mr. Schaefer lends to his readers through his writing and the footnotes. His writing was detailed, and the footnotes were organized in a manner in which the reader could associate the material in the book to its attached footnote. Another positive was that, once I was able to grasp the material, the flow of my reading was smooth. However, from the time I began reading the book, it wasn't until I was about 25-30% into my reading that I really felt that I was beginning to understand what the book was really about.
I would recommend this book to readers who have an understanding of what had already happened in the beginning and to those who are well-versed on what will be coming down the road. And, even though I feel as if I had some difficulty with "getting into" this book, I would still be open to read other books by Mr. Schaefer. He is educated on the subject on which he is writing and offers readers a different perspective from what they might be accustomed to...
I give it 3 stars.

I wasn't sure what the title of this book meant, what was the overlap, and just who is living in it? The author uses the first two chapters of his book to explain just that. The overlap is the time we are living in now. It falls between the first coming of Jesus, and the second coming that hasn't happened yet. The author does a good job of explaining his ideas in simplistic way that really made it easier for me to understand. The use of scriptures and footnotes was very helpful as I used my Bible for reference.I also enjoyed the personal experiences he shared, for me it makes the book much easier to relate to.The author also includes a recommended reading list in the back of the book for further study.
While this is a topic I really knew nothing about, after reading this book, I feel more informed and will continue to explore this topic, and this book will definitely help steer me in the right direction. This would be the perfect book for anyone who is serious about broadening their knowledge about the Bible, and furthering their spiritual walk.

I was provided a copy of this book by Glass Roads Public Relations for review.

This is a good look at the "other side" of thinking on the kingdom and makes some great point. I particularly loved Schaefer's summary of the gospel story in the last chapter. If you have ever struggled with the concept of the kingdom, this would be a helpful read.
