Hammers of Ulric was a truly great collection of short stories, and Riders of the dead was the best Warhammer tale I have ever read. Great book!

Da adolescente giocavo a Warhammer Fantasy e comprai questo mattone di racconti a Cambridge, in vacanza studio: ricordo che ero gasatissimo all'idea di leggere in Inglese dei racconti ambientati nel mondo del mio adorato wargame. Il libro però ha preso polvere per anni, finché oggi non lo ho aperto... e l'ho richiuso subito.
Sul serio, ok che ti hanno assunto per scrivere merchandise rivolto a 12enni, ma potresti evitare di iniziare un romanzo da 200 pagine mescolando narratore onnisciente in tempo reale, narratore interno in terza persona che parla al passato e passaggi di esposizione a volo di uccello in cui non si capisce chi sia la voce narrante... e non dovresti nemmeno iniziare un altro romanzo da 200 pagine con una scena di personaggi senza nome che cazzeggiano, scena che non crea alcun interesse nel lettore, ma anzi (almeno nel mio caso) gli fa rimettere via il libro a vita.
Non credo comprerò mai più narrativa merchandise...

A collection Dan Abnett stories, They richly capture the diversity in both thought and nature of the Old World. His description of battle is secondary only to his dialogue, which feels like it would fit naturally on a movie screen. While this was a compilation of his short novels, I am now more then ever decided upon reading more Warhammer novels.

A sweet collection of Abnett's Warhammer Fantasy writing. He channels David Gemmell in some places and I really enjoy the characterizations over the weak plots but even Abnett's mediocre writing is better than some other writers good writing. I do enjoy the chaos stories though.

I really enjoyed this book, but thought the final battle scenes ended a bit quickly. Great character development that made me hate the fact that the stories had to end.

Easily some of his best work. In particular, the investigative dour priest of Morr with a dark shady past quite pulls in the reader with expert characterisation and plot building. For any fan of dark fantasy, or Dan Abnett, tis is a consummation devoutly to be wished.

Not normally a fan of fantasy (although I've read a few here and there), but it was a Dan Abnett book, so I had to give it a go. I really enjoyed this book, especially the story of the White Wolves. Morgenstern was a particular favourite, although the battle for Maltane in the Gilead story was also brilliant! Hope there's going to be more White Wolves action, Dan?

I didn't like Gilead's Blood too much, but I really liked the Hammers of Ulrica and the Warhammer. I liked how Riders of the Dead started out, but I didn't really like the ending too much.

Eh....not bad, but virtually everything else I've read by him has been vastly superior.
