"I did not like it." - 1/5 stars.
I was torn between speaking from the heart or being generous and giving this a 2/5... but then I reread the title of the book, 'The Insider's Guide' portion sealed the deal for a solid 1. This is the farthest thing from any sort of 'insider' level material, that would lead the prospective reader into the belief that this offers some sort of expert or highly experienced type material... while what is actually presented is quite the opposite.
I would recommend the target audience for this book to be probably Middle School level reading material at max. This is essentially an extremely basic picture driven book with very shallow text bullets that severely lacks depth.
I want to establish my background and state that I am not some MMA/fighting snob or elitist that is being unfair and biased with this review. I have trained Muay Thai for 1 year from a professional trainer with 35 years experience in Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Boxing, and Savate ... and I also back in the day wrestled in High School for 1 year (Junior year, Varsity Heavy Weight 205-265 weight class).
So honestly, 2 years of practical application... and whatever rolling around I did in the grass with Army Combatives, I am not going to count that. It was more of a violent freestyle versus any type of skillfully thought out performance.
Point I am trying to make is that I am not any sort of seasoned veteran and I am definitely in the super casual category and still this book is extremely basic and lacks any really meaningful value.
At best, I would recommend this book to a mature and responsible 13 year old, who would be capable of actually reading this material without trying to use it on other kids at school. Outside of the scope of this, I cannot see this books functional use in any way at all.
