Adorable book with really bright illustrations that always depict the words of the book. A really animated reader can get a kick out of the classroom with this book. I enjoyed reading it.

I gave this book 2 stars because it was way too simple for me to read, and it did not conclude with anything of much importance, in my opinion. However, this book may be great for students that are in either Pre-K or Kindergarten, as they may appreciate watching little Bea buzz all throughout the garden and make friends with everyone from a deer to the rising sun itself. The illustrations within this book remind me of a book called Rollie Pollie Ollie, and I enjoyed its illustrations. I would recommend that this book be read to children in a read aloud activity during a rainy day when everyone is crammed inside of class.

Little Bea by Daniel Roode. Join Little Bea as she visits all of her friends! This is one of my family's FAVORITE picture books! It is such a cute book with even cuter illustrations! It's a perfect book for spring with all of the greenery in the drawings.

Oh my, what a cute little book! I enjoyed reading it. It was well written and had sounds that the animals make.; and for the children to associate with the animals.
Little Bea was such a cute character and I think young children will love her.

I loved the artwork in this book - little Bea is so adorable!

There isn't much of a story, readers just follow Little Bea on her day helping friends.

Appropriate for babies, toddlers & preschoolers. Kids enjoyed this story.

Bea has nothing in common with the bees we need to learn to love and protect. I mean, solitary bees are a thing, but I doubt they eat carrots.... An author's note could have made all the difference.

LFL find, going right back.

This tale of friendship and sharing was a little too cutesy for me, but I'm guessing the littlest listeners will adore the author's sweet illustrations.

Recommended [return][return]This book is about a day in the life of a friendly bee, cleverly named Bea. Little Bea wakes up and goes to visit her friends. Everyone is happy to see her as she plays games and moves from friend to friend. The characters include: Little Bea, a butterfly, owl, goose, beaver, rabbit, bear, deer, mouse, cricket and firefly. As a read aloud, this book lets the adult make plenty of animal and bug noises. The text includes rhymes and nature sounds (like pitter-patter). Sure to please toddlers. The graphics are computer generated, but I would argue that it takes some talent to bring these characters to life in a toddlers world. The animals are cute, fuzzy and the story is happy. The background consists of sunshine, trees, hills and flowers. There is no clear message, however, the animal sounds will probably suffice to its intended audience. The bright colors and cute animals will attract youngsters. It works as a bedtime book because the Little Bea goes to bed after a busy day. A good example to read to children that EVERYONE needs to go to sleep. It would also be an attention getting book as a read aloud to preschool aged children. This book would make for a good board book and it would work in a public library or a preschool library.

2. A book review from Publisher's Weekly said, "With its digital art and low-impact narration, Roode's debut may seem fluffy, but it's a solid choice for very young readers. The spreads unspool from left to right as Little Bea (she's a bee) plays with a family of ducks ("Now we're going to chase you, Little Bea!"), helps Beaver gather pears ("Come back for pie tomorrow!"), and pulls carrots in Rabbit's garden... The text is full of sounds ("Pitter. Patter. Drop. Drip. Drop"), internal rhymes (" ‘One, two, carrots for you!' Munch, munch, crunch. ‘Thank you for lunch, Little Bea' "), and the simple pleasures of knock-knock jokes and games of "duck, duck, goose" and "peekaboo"..."
3. There are super neat and colorful illustrations in this book that I think beginning readers would really like. I love how he depicts Little Bea and all her friends/neighbors and thought that he had good uses of rhymes and like-words (examples: be, bee, and Bea). I would recommend this book to beginning readers as it has pretty simple language and an easy story to follow.

From the time the sun wakes Little Bea up, she has so much to accomplish! Little Bea has so many friends to play with and help out, all before the moon comes up! She helps Beaver gather pears for his pie, she picks carrots for Rabbit's lunch, she shares her honey with Bear, and she also plays in the rain with Mouse. So many friends want to spend time with Little Bea in just one short day. This book shows children how to share and help their friends out even if they don't have very much time! Little Bea helps children learn how to be good friends and to help out whenever they can!

**An activity for this book would be to have a discussion with the kids to tell about a time where they've felt like they have had a lot of things to do and not enough time to do it. Each child could tell how much they had to get done and how they handled it and if they helped their friends or shared.

What's missing from this book, though, is an opportunity to teach children that yes, there are in fact, species of solitary bees. Children grow up learning about beehives and the way that bees waggle dance at each other to give the directions to flowers. Here is a book that hints at the labor intensive life of a solitary bee without any of the follow through.

Roode's 1st picture book features a cute little bee who crosses paths with his various animal friends over the course of a day. Featuring lots of animal sounds and big bright pictures this book would be an excellent storytime read! It would be useful for many different themes: animals, bees, friends, daily activities, even bedtime. Digital illustrations. PreK-2.

A little bee, Bea, wakes up and buzzes through the day meeting other animals. There's practically no story here at all, and the computer-generated illustrations look completely...well, computer-generated. I suppose babies and toddlers might enjoy the animal noises. I didn't even like this one, really, but one star seemed a little too harsh.

A busy bee named "Bea" buzzes around, looking like a unscrewed lightbulb with her tiny striped body and bulbous yellow head. Gardening, visiting with friends, playing in the rain, and an array of other little mini-adventures in a bucolic outdoor setting wear her out until she "Bzz. Bzz. Zzzzzzzz," goes to sleep. Digitally created art looks slick and bright.

Just because I didn't like it much doesn't mean it isn't a good story for very small people. There is a lot of repetition and fun sounds to make while reading the story. Somewhat similar to the "buzz, buzz, buzz, tinky, tinky, tinky" of Charles Lamb.

One of my little one's favorite books! She loves the illustrations. She has so much fun pointing to & identifying animals in the story as well as flowers, etc. Got this for her when she was just under a year and it immediately became one of her favorites.

What a precious book for little ones! This is probably below school age, but I think kindergartners would enjoy it. The pictures and big and colorful and the text is an easy read. Young kids would have fun making the different animal noises.

Very basic book to use as a read-aloud to younger audiences. Not much story to the book. Just a warm book about a bee that goes about a day and visits her friends. My 2 year old enjoyed looking at the pictures but my 7 year old grew a little bit bored.

I found this story to be slight... it chronicles a day of play for a bee and her friends. Nothing really happens. The digital illustrations didn't do anything for me either. -AM
