Norman Rockwell’s scenes of everyday small-town life are among the most indelible images in all of twentieth-century art. This took me a long time to get through because this book is a lot smarter than I am. I did enjoy the author’s explanations of various Rockwell paintings (once again, I’m not smart enough to look at art and notice some of these nuances). However, the entire time I was waiting for a giant scandal or a big reveal about Rockwell besides his work wasn’t as innocent as it seems on the surface once you start pulling the threads.
