In my eyes Roche is one of the premiere critics working across contemporary Irish drama today. Ambition, range, depth, and skill are effortlessly woven together as he works to vaunt lesser-spoken of playwrights into the light previously occupied by the world famous: Samuel Beckett rubs shoulders again with Brendan Behan, while Brian Friel makes room for Thomas Kilroy and a group of female Northern Irish dramatists.
