A good, solid study of Thomas' published writings, including poems, prose, and screenplays, though I found the most interesting part of the book to be the first two chapters with their focus on Thomas' earliest and arguably most cryptic work, and their nod to the work of philosopher Ernst Cassirer in his illumination of the important connection between myth and the primordial roots of language, roots into which Thomas, like Joyce, whom he admired, seeks to delve. Much of the volume is devoted to synopsis and analysis of specific poems, so it is advisable to have Thomas's complete works, or at least a substantial sampling, close at hand as a companion volume.
