About the author

Jez is the author and illustrator of 48 books for children. In 2018 he published The Story of 'You' his first book for adults, the first in a series called Life Beyond Personality. He says: "We enter this world as pure Oneness, (what I call our ‘original state of Being’) but we lose this as we become identified with our Personality. In that identification, the Stillness and Love of our Original State is overshadowed by the suffering of the Personality.

Children's Books

His Eddy and the Bear trilogy (which began with the much-loved Where's My Teddy in 1992) has sold nearly four and a half million copies and was made into an BAFTA award-winning animated television series.

Duck in the Truck (published in 1999) heralded the start of another bestselling series, this time featuring the irrepressible Duck and his three friends - Frog, Goat and Sheep. There are currently nine books in the Duck series and almost than 1.5 million copies have been sold.

In 2000 Jez created Hug - a powerful and touching book of only three words about a baby chimpanzee called Bobo who loses his Mom. Oprah Winfrey raved about it on her show when she chose it for her recommended reading list while Richard Curtis (the writer and director of Four Weddings and a Funeral) selected it as one of his ‘Best Books’, calling it ‘classic family drama which holds up well next to Jez’s other masterpieces.’ Bobo went on to star in thee more classics; Tall ( which along with Hug won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Book Award) Yes and Play. The series has sold almost 3 million copies.

Alborough, author of the Duck in the Truck series, returns with a new cast of animal characters and plenty of mischief to keep young listeners entertained. Early in the morning, when the farmer was still in bed, Sheep climbed onto the tractor and made the sound that the tractor makes when it’s starting up. Ba-a-a-a. Cat comes and can make the sound the engine makes when its starting to move. Purr. Turkey arrives. He can make the sound of the tractor when it heads down the road. The three of them pretend the tractor is starting, running and heading off. Then Mouse, Goose and Cow arrive with their own noises which combined make all of the sounds of the tractor driving away. Which is just what the farmer thinks when he hears them all together!

The cacophony of animal sounds is great fun here, especially with the twist of them sounding like the motor, wheels and other parts of a tractor. Children will love trying to make the noises of the animals sound like machinery. Alborough excels at making picture books that are friendly and very accessible for children. His text is simple and fast moving, taking readers directly to the humor and the action. His bright colored illustrations are zippy and jolly.

Add this to any farm themed toddler story time for plenty of noise making fun. It will also appeal to children who enjoy machines. Appropriate for ages 2-4.

This was a fun book that was just silly. It was about some animals on the farm taking the farmers tractor for a ride even though they knew it was not a good idea It was just too fun. It is a good story to learn about animals you would find on a farm and the different noises they make. However, I did not like the message this story conveyed. The sheep was the leader and he knew it was a bad idea because the farmer would get mad if he found out but he fell under the peer pressure of the other animals who begged him to take them for a ride anyways. I may just be reading this through an adult lens and looking maybe just a little too deep but I think that they never got in trouble for it and got away with doing what they knew was wrong might influence children to think the same. Kids might get the idea that if they are sneaky enough they can get away with bad things. On the other hand I think kids would think it was a fun book and would probably find it quite entertaining and would also learn about different farm animals as well.

I read this book durung storytime and the children loved it. This book reminds me a little of Jez Alborough's book, "Duck on a Bike." Unfortuately, it feel short to reaching that level of greatness.

Be prepared to read it over and over again as the last line in the book is "Let's do it again!" But it's such a cute story, with excellent illustrations, I almost don't mind. There's definitely something special about this book when the two year-old asks for the "dobble, moo book". Would recommend to anyone with toddlers and preschoolers, especially ones that love tractors!

This would be a great book for a young reader. Sheep climbs on a tractor and makes an engine sounds. Soon after, other animals join in and want to make their own sounds. It's a great interaction book with students.
