Highly Commended, Basic and Clinical Sciences Category, BMA Awards 2007! This best-selling atlas contains over 900 images and illustrations to help you learn and review the microstructure of human tissues. It starts with a section on general cell structure and replication. Basic tissue types are covered in the following section, and the third section presents the microstructures of each of the major body systems. The highest-quality color light micrographs and electron micrograph images are accompanied by concise text and captions which explain the appearance, function, and clinical significance of each image. The accompanying website lets you view all the images from the atlas with a "virtual microscope", allowing you to view the image at a variety of pre-set magnifications.

This is a great book for medical, biomedical and biological science students.
I learned well from the figures and figure legends. However, sometimes details on processes (i.e. the cell cycle) seemed to be lacking and I ended up having to google the answer or look in a different textbook for more clarity.
I will definitely be using this as a reference throughout university, as the figures and microscopic images are just so valuable!! I currently have the e-book, but will be investing in a hard-copy too.
This is a very good histology book, though probably not essential (at least in my program, your mileage may vary). The printing is high quality and structures are labeled clearly. It is easy to use and learn from. Despite this, I didn't find it overly helpful, as our histology (in my program) slides are available online and our instructor has prepared excellent notes. I found it more helpful during our hematology section, as it was a different instructor who didn't provide those same tools, so I needed an alternative resource. Overall, it's a good book for histology but I didn't end up using it much.
I found this histology atlas to be not detailed enough for my department. It does an okay job. The images are alright. But there's not enough of them, and there's not enough explanatory detail either.
