look sometimes i don’t know what the fuck is going on BUT joelyn is fucking awesome!!! FF IS BADASS!! and annasui is here to look pretty!!! love it here
We get to see F.F. fight and she's so cool!! I love her!!!! And Jolyne is so tenacious!!!!! I love her!!!!!! Annasui is a weirdo dick and a dumbass but he's so beautiful I will forgive him his dumbassery. Also is it just me or are the fights getting more gruesome?
I loved the last 3 chapters of the Westwood fight. Fun fact- I really enjoy the grappling based side of professional wrestling. The psychology of how people have to position themselves. The way people can transition back and forth between different holds. The way people cover up escape options. That stuff is super interesting for me. I never get tired of seeing wrestlers like Daniel Bryan deftly move between different holds, losing and regaining control. And that's a very specific sort of appeal that the Westwood fight taps into. He's educating Jolyne and the reader on the value of a specific hold, what it's one weakness is, and how to cover it up.
In general, I feel like Jojo has become more education than ever. Within the pages of this volume, we get info on grappling, the trajectory needed to enter Earth's atmosphere from space, and the history of Feng Shui. The fan translation does falter here. In general, the localization for Stone Ocean is probably the weakest I've seen. Feng Shui isn't something that intuitively makes sense to a lot of westerners. And the translation team isn't up to the task of explaining it clearly. It almost feels like the more complicated a stand is, the weaker the translation gets.
The fight with Dragon's Dream could have been stronger. I think there's a lot of potential for a stand that essentially causes its target to have astronomically bad luck. But the simple appeal of that concept is muddled with poorly explained Feng Shui, the inexplicable hand-warping stuff, and lack of clarity on how exactly Foo Fighters is supposed to cover up her unlucky angles. It's a decent fight that becomes long in the tooth by the volume's end.
While I'm complaining, I'd also like to point out how it seems like the musical references have gotten weaker. This could be down to personal taste, but it seems like Araki is getting some deeper cuts for his references. It is nice to see more contemporary stuff like Marilyn Manson and Foo Fighters, though. Really hammers home how close this series is getting to the present.

There were lots of cool fighting panels and sequences, but overall I like this volume the least, the fight between F.F. and Kenzo lasts too long and it still isn't over.
Annasui was very pretty but very useless, standing over there doing nothing.
The fight between Jolyne and the guard was pretty cool in the beginning.
the main fight in this volume is SUPER interesting, i love the use of feng shui and seeing how foo fighters reacts to it. i love her in fights so much and having jolyne be on the sideline doesn’t really hinder the progression of the story too much. i’ve liked this fight so far!! i’m excited to see how it concludes
