The sixth book in the EXOTIQUE series showcases the world's most beautiful CG characters created for film, television, games, and personal endeavor. Ballistic Publishing books are renowned worldwide for their outstanding quality, and every image in EXOTIQUE 6 is individually color-corrected to ensure that the transfer from the computer monitor to print is the best possible. With inspirational artwork covering the genres of fantasy, sci-fi, anime, and photorealism, EXOTIQUE 6 showcases a wide variety of styles and offers a cross-section of the exciting digital character work being created in all corners of the world.
The EXOTIQUE series continue to feature beautiful CG character art. In volume 6, 229 artists have contributed 344 pieces of artwork. 95 artists are new. The printing is brilliant and the colours are really vibrant, almost too vibrant.
There are a couple of 3D modeled characters in the sea of painted ones, and the majority are on human characters. I actually like the non-human characters because since they aren't human, there's always an element of surprise with what you see. The non-human characters are quite good, just too bad there aren't more. Too bad there aren't any series featuring only non-human characters at the moment.
Since every piece is digitally created, the style of art is pretty similar - which may be the book's selling point here. But when your style of art is similar and everyone is good technically, it's hard to stand out. Yes, the costumes and pretty faces are awesome, but what I find lacking is the dynamic poses, especially of characters in action. Most of the characters are created with a particular role in mind, so it will really add to the character and personality if that role is acted out more clearly.
Other than the minor quibble, EXOTIQUE 6 is a book I can still recommend to CG artists. The selling point is digital character art and you know that already.
