Commentaries augment 80 plates drawn from Books of Hours, Bibles, and other illuminated-manuscript works produced in Europe during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries
This book had enough detail to be educational even for wide readers in the subject, but was concise enough that a casually interested reader would enjoy it, too. Beautiful, full color pages.
I’m neither an artist nor a historian, but I chanced upon this beautiful volume in a used book store. It’s written primarily for readers with some background in manuscript illumination, which I don’t have, but I loved it anyway. The high quality plates alone are worth five stars.
